Man dies after roof collapses
DEVASTATING pictures have emerged of what is left of a house after a roof collapsed in the early hours of yesterday morning, killing a man in Bradford.
The 47-year-old man died after a roof caved in, with debris plummeting into the bedroom of a house in Knight’s Fold.
A 28-year-old woman, who was also in the property at the time, suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and she remains in hospital.
It was initially reported by West Yorkshire Police that three children were also inside the property at the time of the collapse. They were unharmed but it has since been clarified they and their family were in fact next door at the time and were rescued.
Pictures show a police car and officers in the narrow cul-de-sac after the collapse which happened shortly after 5am on Sunday, August 23.
They remained there for the rest of the day as they looked to establish what happened and to prevent further risk to the public.
Detective Inspector Claudine Binns, of Bradford District CID, said: “This has clearly been a tragic incident in which a man has lost his life and a woman has received some serious injuries.
“Work is ongoing to make the building safe and we are in the early stages of a full investigation with the local authority to determine exactly how this fatal incident took place. A full file will be prepared for the coroner.
“The family of the adjoining house will be rehoused and authorities are working to support everyone involved in any way we can.
“Road closures will be in place at the scene throughout the day as structural engineers, police and fire services continue our work there.”
