Brown has unfinished business with The Posh

transfer window? He said: “First of all, I can understand why other clubs are interested in him.

“I was following everything last year and he got 19 goals but, at the same time he helps the team to score and to win games.

“So I understand why clubs can be interested in him.

“As a coach, we need to understand his ideas.

“When you are at one club and the player has a high level of impact here, you have to know and feel that these players are going to increase the interest of other clubs.

“I also understand that sometimes players need challenges and want to continue to grow in their careers.

“But we are working with him, he is with the squad, and we will work with every player from the first day to the last whether that’s one year, one week, one month or maybe 10 years - I will be working with the same ideas and we will always challenge players to keep growing.”

So is Grant showing the commitment the new boss would expect of a player keen to do well this season?

“Not only him, but any player who has done something important wants to work hard and show they have ambitions,” said the boss.

“Karlan is showing to us why he did what he’s done here at Huddersfield.”

TOWN have been linked with two Leeds players as the transfer rumour mill goes on.

There are reports the Terriers want Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk on loan.

The 21-year-old Dutch youth international, who can play at centre-back or in a deep-lying midfield role, made five appearances for Leeds last season. However, the Examiner understand a deal is unlikely to be struck for Struijk at this time even if Leeds were willing to let him go.

Fellow Leeds academy graduate Robbie Gotts has also been put in the frame once again in connection with Town.

The Terriers are believed to be monitoring the midfielder and a deal cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Head coach Carlos Corberan is short on central midfield options even with everyone fit, with Lewis O’Brien, Jonathan Hogg and Juninho Bacuna backed up by 19-year-old Matty Daly and a slightly-out-ofposition Alex Pritchard.

O’Brien will miss the start of the season with a quad injury and Hogg is struggling with a hip problem.

Town are also said to be looking at Stoke City defender Liam Lindsay, but the Examiner understands there is no truth to that claim.

Sheffield Wednesday are also rumoured to be interested in the centreback.

HUDDERSFIELD Town’s Reece Brown feels he has unfinished business in his season-long loan at Peterborough United.

The midfielder arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium as a summer signing from Forest Green Rovers last year but made just one competitive appearance - against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup - before being sent out on loan to the League One side in January.

The 24-year-old playmaker made 11 appearances for Peterborough before the season was curtailed by the coronavirus in March, and the club narrowly missed out on a play-off berth under the points-per-game system used to determine the final League One table.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony had indicated the club wished to make Brown’s move permanent shortly after he first arrived at the club earlier this year, but the transfer market has since been thrown into disarray by the game’s current financial situation and this temporary move has now been agreed.

And Brown will be a driven man after being welcomed back to London Road.

He said: “I enjoyed my time here last season and in my opinion, I felt we were going to get promoted, so I am back here to see if we can finish the job this time around.

“I want to play first-team football and the club were keen to bring me back.”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson feels Brown is an ideal fit for the club and believes his return is a vital plus.

“When we knew there was a possibility of bringing Reece back, given what he did for us last season in terms of the way he played, it was a no brainer,” said Ferguson. “He is a great lad who fitted in really well and suited the way that we played. He was a very impressive performer for us.”
