Tributes to tragic young mum killed in crash
HEARTBROKEN family and friends have paid tribute to a young mum, 21, killed in a head-on crash in Brighouse.
Sophie Murphy was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa, travelling on Highmoor Lane at 2.22pm, when the car collided with a Mercedes.
Paramedics tried to save Sophie, but she died at the scene.
She leaves behind a young daughter, Emilia. Sophie’s mother, Vicky Simpson, shared a photo of Sophie and Emilia on Facebook, with the caption: “My life gone.”
The heartbroken mum said: “There is no words to describe the news I received yesterday that my beautiful daughter Sophie has been taken from me at the young age of 21.
“My life, my heart and my whole world has been torn apart, My Sophie, my baby, my first love, all my life I have lived for my children.”
She added: “My heart is now broken, I will love you forever and promise from the bottom of my heart I will make you proud and make sure Emilia has the best upbringing, you was the best mum, daughter could ever wish for. Fly high my angel until we meet again.”
Heartfelt tributes from people who knew Sophie soon followed.
Sharon Wood said: “To the most beautiful, smart, caring young lady, it is with a sad heavy heart that we have to say goodbye love and miss you always. RIP, Sophie darling, sleep well.”
Sadie Firth posted: “RIP, Sophie Murphy, such a lovely girl taken far too soon.
“Thoughts go out to your family and your gorgeous little girl.”
West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) has launched an appeal for witnesses.
DS Alison Webb, of the Major Collision and Enquiry Team, said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident in which a young woman has lost her life and we are conducting a full investigation into what took place.
“We are appealing for witnesses and I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or either the Mercedes or Corsa just prior to the incident taking place.
“We would also ask anyone who has dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles driving just prior to the crash to contact us.”
