Campbell hoping for a quick return to action after injury problems

-

CARLOS Corberan has issued an update on the fitness of Huddersfield Town striker Fraizer Campbell.

The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract - with the club having the option to extend and is keen to get involved with pre-season.

That’s especially so after Campbell had a disrupted pre-season last year following his departure from Hull City, when he spent part of his time training with Brighouse Town.

Huddersfield-born Campbell signed at the John Smith’s Stadium in August but he didn’t start until his third appearance, after building up his work at Canalside.

He was troubled by injuries towards the end of the campaign, when Town played the final nine matches in just 32 days following the resumption, and basically shared the No.9 duties with Steve Mounie. At the end of the season, Campbell went on holiday and selfisolated on his return, but was given extra time off to recover from tendinitis in an Achilles issue.

He now joins Terence Kongolo, Tommy Elphick and the latest quartet of Lewis O’Brien, Ryan Schofield, Jonathan Hogg and Rarmani Edmonds-Green in being unavailable to the head coach for training.

Corberan explained: “Kongolo and Elphick have more long-term injuries, Kongolo with a foot and Elphick with a knee. They came from a long time ago, so I can’t be expecting they will add to the squad fast. It’s a different situation with Campbell and we think he can maybe add to the squad in the next two to three weeks.”
