Country needs talent in charge not sycophants

-

I KNOW, I know you can’t judge a book by its cover – but come on.

Yesterday I looked at the recent pictures of our esteemed PM on his holidays with his fright wig covered by a beany hat. I thought, well everyone dresses down on holiday, but Johnson doesn’t look much better when he is dressed for work. This is our representative on the international stage and yet he looks as though he gets dressed from a bin bag.

Still I suppose we must be grateful that he has made an appearance at long last, mustn’t we? He announced that he would be taking charge of schools from now on and that it was a “moral duty” to get children back to school.

Apart from the oddity of Johnson even knowing what morals are, I am not confident that he is the person to get our children back to school.

Let’s look at whether we can judge this book on actions.

Well for a start, he appointed Education Minister Gavin Williamson after he had been sacked as Theresa May’s Defence Secretary.

He also appointed Priti Patel to the Home Office after she quit as Trade Secretary after conducting unofficial meetings with Israel while she was on holiday.

He also appointed his friend Baroness Harding to run the Test and Trace system after she had failed as head of Talk Talk. She has now been made boss of the replacement to PHE.

Johnson’s appointments as PM highlight his lack of judgement and ability.

I wonder if those who voted for him and his morally-bankrupt party are having second thoughts as we lurch from crisis to catastrophe? I hope so.

Schofield,

comically tries to shift the blame for the exam fiasco from Cummings and Johnson to Sir Keir Starmer!

I’m reminded of Andy Hamilton’s observations of Americans, when he said, “the problem with Americans is they have trouble with facts”.

Mr Schofield writes of Sir Keir, “if he had kept control of the teachers unions instead of playing petty party politics, the schools could have opened in June, pupils could have then taken their exams”.

Does Mr Schofield realise that the teachers unions are not affiliated to the Labour Party? Even if the unions were affiliated, Sir Keir is neither a member of a teachers union or an official, and has no direct control over their actions and policies.

Sir Keir is leader of the opposition, his role is to oppose, the clue is in the job title.

The GCSE and A level exams were cancelled in early March, there was never any prospect of exams this summer.

I realise that Cummings and Johnson seek obsequiousness from their talentless Cabinet of yes men, but it might be best to check a few salient facts before joining in.

No. 10 cancelled exams, not the unions, not Sir Keir Starmer, it was No. 10’s responsibility to ameliorate that fact in as fair a way to pupils as possible.

You can win referenda and elections with slogans, you cannot govern with slogans.

The UK needs and deserves talent in government, not sycophants.
