Why should some areas suffer because of others?

-

THE pandemic has changed our lives this year, and we’re all aware of the things we miss from before lockdown.

But as the situation changes and children begin to get ready for their first days at school, suddenly we’re not looking back at what we miss, but ahead to brand new experiences.

To help families prepare, our NSPCC led Blackpool Better Start, funded by the National Lottery, created a great guide for pupils and parents around the town – it was full of great ideas on how to help children get ready for their first term, so I’d like to share a few below.

First, and most important, make sure they can wash their hands with soap without your help – that’s going to be essential going forward.

Next, have your children practice taking off their coats and shoes and putting them back on. Their uniform too – it’ll help them get used to their new outfits, and can help save time in the morning before school.

It’s also worth having them practice carrying their food on a plate, ahead of spending time in the dinner hall. Also, why not have them try new fruits or vegetables, so they’re more willing to try them at school? Make it fun, have them make their own fruit kebab using a wooden skewer and chunks of fruits they like and fruits they haven’t tried yet.

Lastly, but importantly, encourage your child to practice sharing, it will help them make friends.

There’s advice and support available at www. nspcc.org.uk or for children at www.childline.org. uk, so remember, we’re still here on the frontline for children, but we’re here to help you too.

THE onslaught on the Government, in your letters column, is not reflected in the opinions of people I have met while delivering the Conservative message in the Almondbury and Lepton ward constituency I represent.

After months of not being allowed to deliver leaflets, from July 4 the party gave the go ahead to do so. After deciding to produce and deliver literature to over 8,000 homes, I was told not to knock on doors or initiate contact.

There have been plenty of residents though eager to talk and discuss the lockdown nationally and the special measures inflicted on Kirklees and other authorities locally.

Infection rates in my ward are not recorded as they are so low. People therefore ask me why do they have to suffer for what is happening elsewhere in the borough? People do move about of course, but my answer is that they should not have to put up with special measures if their actions have meant that they have helped push the infection rate to near zero where they live.

So with a non-existent infection rate locally, pupils at King James may have to wear face masks. Is this strictly necessary?

When the inquiry into the Covid-19 pandemic begins I think we in the United Kingdom should be asking why has there been so much hysteria whipped up, particularly by the media, to make life as difficult as possible for the general population?

As the number of cases and deaths has been brought under control the lack of positivity about this has been alarming in my honest opinion.

It may be mistakes have been made by this Government and things have not gone well 100% of the time.

Most people I have been contacted by generally support the Government and the measures taken to alleviate the economic effects of the pandemic.

Time now to “Keep Calm” and get back to the normal a life we had back before lockdown: get back to work, get back to school, get back to living.

Another U-turn from the king of spin

SO the amazing spinning Johnson does another U-turn! Nothing new there then.

He does more turns than Lewis Hamilton after all. He spins and meanwhile Jacob Rees-Mogg makes another million from his hedge fund. One such fund made a staggering 4,144% profit from Covid-19.

Another made over £2.4bn gambling on a no deal Brexit. Still, they need the money!

How much longer must we endure this inconstant man and his venal, incompetent selfserving bunch of ne’er do wells who enrich themselves at the expense of the people?

A Catholic definition of a lie is to deny information to those entitled to it. Perhaps Johnson and co might bear that in mind when producing the next batch of doctored figures to confuse the British public.

I think I’ll just stock upe to prepare for a no deal Brexit and a second wave of the virus.
