Sezer fitness boost, but it’s woe for Kirby

- By CHRIS OSTICK

AIDAN Sezer could yet make an appearance in Huddersfield Giants’ Super League clash with Hull FC tomorrow.

The Claret and Gold skipper was doubtful with a hamstring strain picked up against Warrington in their last game two weeks ago.

On Thursday, head coach Simon Woolford said the Australian was set to join stand-off Lee Gaskell on the sidelines.

However, Sezer has now been named in the Giants’ 21-man squad for the clash with Hull at

Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Ashton Golding and Leroy Cudjoe are also in the party, as is James Gavet who only returned to training on Thursday after sitting out a two-week ban for breaching the RFL’s Covid protocols.

But the Giants have been hit with another injury blow, with Jon Luke Kirby today having an operation on his ACL and facing nine months out. It comes after Ukuma Ta’ai was ruled out for up to four months with a lateral ligament injury to his ankle.

Said Woolford: “Both these situations are big losses to us as Ukuma is a senior forward and young Jon would have got a good number of games given in the next couple of months given how we’d planned to rotate the squad in the short turnarounds that all clubs will face.

“Both injuries looked fairly innocuous at the

Warrington’s time, particularly Jon in training, but scans and specialists have dictated the way forward.”

Meanwhile, Aaron Murphy has left the Giants to join Danny Brough at Bradford on a two-year contract.

The two played together in the League Leaders Shield triumph in 2013. Bulls coach John Kear said: “I feel Aaron is one of biggest signings the club has made since I came in. He will add greatly to the group because he is a real team before self player and he is the type of person we want to join the group. He is a warrior.
