Plenty of changes as league prepare for kick-off

THERE have been a few changes and a few milestones passed during the close season of the Huddersfie­ld & District FL.

Life president Frank Beaumont celebrated 60 years of service to the league and local football.

Frank is well known and has also researched and published a book on the origins and history of the Huddersfie­ld & District Associatio­n Football League.

Margaret Whitaker became the league’s new President for the season and the first female to hold the role.

Margaret replaced the retiring President

Melvyn Haigh. Margaret was also the league’s first female League Secretary.

Melvyn held the role of treasurer since 1977, before becoming President last season.

Neville Wordsworth becomes Chair of the league and remains the League’s Fixture Secretary. The league also congratula­te him on his recent appointmen­t to the Board of Directors at the West Riding County FA.

Jeff Mellor, a longservin­g stalwart from Heywoods Irish Centre FC, is our deputy Chair.

Lewis Elliott is now Treasurer, taking over from Melvyn Haigh last season. Lewis has introduced paperless billing and receipting to the league and reduces much of the paperwork previously issued to clubs in our League.

Howard Young is secretary, co-ordinating informatio­n received from The FA and our regional governing bodies. Howard is also responsibl­e for informatio­n sent out to clubs following meetings, cup draws and referees reports.

Aidan Hopson is Registrati­on Secretary and also the league’s Covid-19 Officer.
