Diarra’s early bid to impress Carlos

on top of that, he is among the midfield players as a wingman.

But the Town media department may soon have some editing to do.

Corberan has had Rowe working almost exclusively as a right-back during Town’s build-up to the campaign.

The head coach likes the look of him for his pace and attacking qualities, ones which would suit a 4-3-3 or a wing-back system, and that’s why he went on as replacement for Demeaco Duhaney at halftime in the 2-1 friendly victory over Bradford City.

Rowe did well, too, and with Town needing to find extra options in a position which was filled for most of last season by the departed Danny Simpson and wantaway Flo Hadergjonaj, the teenager might just find a few more first-team opportunities opening up for him.

And it’s worth noting that against Bradford, Corberan played left-back Harry Toffolo as a central defender, young left-back Ben Jackson in central midfield, No.10 Alex Pritchard as a deep-lying midfielder and Josh Austerfield - who normally operates in midfield - as basically a third centre-back.

HUDDERSFIELD Town are determined to make the most of the youthful talent they already have on the books.

Let’s face it, that’s exactly why chairman Phil Hodgkinson made the huge decision to replace manager Danny Cowley with head coach Carlos Corberan.

The Spaniard has a style the chairman believes will, in the short and long term, prove beneficial to Town’s ambitions in addition to a coaching philosophy which has been honed under some of the best in the business.

Young players are particularly open to Corberan’s way of operating and the ideas he puts across, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised when the youngest of the 22 players on view against Bradford City should make a very favourable impression.

French teenager Brahima Diarra has been described in his own country as ‘the young nugget of Huddersfield’.

Nugget implies value and, when attached to a player who was still only 16 at the beginning of last month, it makes observers sit up and take notice.

An attacking midfielder who is already contracted with Town until 2022, with the club having the option to add a further year, Diarra showed in his second-half appearance against Bradford City that he’s far from fazed about stepping up.

He’s been training consistently with the first team group under Corberan and, because of that, he didn’t look out of place in the 2-1 friendly victory - an encouraging step for a lad who’s only just 17 against what was basically a League Two first team.

Diarra is powerful and adaptable, not to mention no small amount of ability, but he’s also a quick learner and that will be one of the main reasons Corberan likes to have him around.

Hailing from Paris, Diarra played for Montrouge and AC Boulogne-Billancourt before arriving at Canalside.

Like central defender Loick Ayina, he moved to Huddersfield from France last year and he enjoyed a successful first season as a Young Terrier.

Playing in an advanced central midfield role, he netted seven goals in 26 starts for the Under-17s and made his bow for the older sides, with five appearances for the EDT and Under-19s. He’s now taken an early step towards the senior side, so he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
