TOWN KEEN ON PIPA
TERRIERS EYEING MOVE FOR VERSATILE SPANISH DEFENDER
HUDDERSFIELD Town have been linked with an interest in signing versatile defender Pipa from Espanyol, according to reports.
It is believed that the club are willing to let Pipa leave this summer to help free up the La Liga outfit’s budget, with Spanish news outlet Pericos Online suggesting that Town are keen to sign the 22-year-old defender.
The report mentions that Town are said to be keen on signing the versatile wideman on a permanent deal, with Espanyol believed to be entitled to a percentage of any future sell-on fee.
Pipa, who can play as a right-back, right midfielder and as a rightwinger, made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Catalonia side last season, including three assists in three Europa League appearances.
The signing of Pipa would add cover and versatility to Corberan’s squad ahead of their 2020-21 season starting at home to Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.
Signing for Espanyol’s academy from Esparraguera at the age of 10, Pipa spent nine years in the club’s academy between 2008 and 2017, including a brief loan spell at Damm.
He was promoted into the club’s first-team squad last year and made his debut in a Europa League qualifying win over Swiss side Luzern in August 2019.
Pipa went on to make 13 appearances in all competitions last season, four of them in Europe.
He made seven La Liga appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, has won 10 caps for Spain’s youth sides and made his debut for Spain’s under-21s last year.
