Appeal to find callous person who dumped pup
SICK AND STARVING DOG FOUND ABANDONED BY SIDE OF CANAL
A FOUR-WEEK-OLD starving and sick puppy was dumped by the side of a canal in Huddersfield.
The RSPCA has now launched an appeal to find the callous person who dumped the small, tan pup by the Huddersfield Broad Canal.
The animal was found by a dog walker in bushes by the canal, near Colne Bridge Road, off Leeds Road, Huddersfield, on Friday 28 August at around 5pm.
The puppy, which had black ears, was severely underweight, suffering from hypothermia and had diarrhoea so severe he was bleeding from his bottom.
The small pup, which had been left without a box or bed, was taken to a vet but died overnight.
RSPCA inspector Natalie Taylor has appealed for information to trace the puppy’s owner.
She said: “This poor puppy was found in the bushes by the side of a canal. He was emaciated, suffering from diarrhoea so severe he was bleeding from his back end and he also had hypothermia.”
Sadly, despite the vet’s best efforts, the poor pup passed away overnight on Friday.
“It’s unclear what has happened to this puppy but whoever was responsible for him must have known how seriously ill the poor dog was and that it was very unlikely he would be able to survive on his own.
“We are very keen to find out what happened, if anyone knows of a litter that was born around four weeks ago, or saw anything suspicious that afternoon, please contact us on the inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
During coronavirus lockdown, the RSPCA received 40 reports a day of abandoned animals.
The charity fears an increase in the number of people buying puppies and the decrease in people’s income during the pandemic will lead to a greater number of abandoned animals.
