Carlos warns of banana skin tie with Dale

-

It’s first competitive outing for the League One side in almost six months. Their season was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and, unlike Town in the Chapionship, their season didn’t restart.

Despite finishing just three places above the drop zone, Corberan is a fan of the job Brian Barry-Murphy has done at Dale.

“I have a lot of respect for them,” said the Town head coach. “It’s a very good team, a team that try to attack a lot, they always want to have the ball and they are not scared about how they manage the ball or to receive it in all circumstances.

“He (Brian BarryMurphy) talks very well about how the League One team try to improve and play from the back. I’ve seen this team are not scared to play.

“They use one side to attack and another side to defend. I have watched some of their games and I think it’s a team that tries to play very good football and it is going to be another challenge, a demanding one for sure.

“But that’s what we need, to be ready to face this type of situations.”

Corberan also spoke of the competition itself and how he won’t be treating the clash as a glorified friendly, despite the strange scheduling of the first round.

He added: “It’s exciting to start the real competition, especially in this cup. Not in this round but maybe in the future we will be playing against the 92 best teams in English football.

“For me it’s a very tough competition which reflects very well the level of British football. It’s a very high level.

“Every year there are results that can surprise and you will find teams in League Two can compete with teams playing in the Premier League.

“This is very positive for football in this country.

“I think it’s something that makes it special to be involved in British football and I have a lot of respect for the competition.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we are able to do in the pitch.”
