Pre-season graft will all be worth it now, says Bacuna
JUNINHO Bacuna says the hard work being put in under Carlos Corberan will be worth it in the long run.
The new Huddersfield Town chief has been putting his squad through double sessions since arriving at the club ahead of the new campaign, which starts for the Terriers today as they take on Rochdale in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The Spaniard wants to make his players ultra-fit as they take on board a new style of play.
And that has meant long days at Canalside for Town’s players.
Bacuna, 23, says he and his colleagues fully understand the need for intense workloads.
“Training has been crazy,” he revealed.
“We get into the training ground at 9am and I get home at 7pm!
“It’s different, but if you want to have a new style, that is totally different from before, then you need to spend as much time as possible together to get on the same page.
“It’s high intensity football and
I’m ready to show what we’ve been doing when the season starts, and I think I’m speaking for everyone.
“If you see the pre-season games we’ve played, we know how we want to play.
“Saturday is obviously the first time we’ll do it officially.”
After today’s clash, the new Championship campaign starts when Norwich City - fresh from their relegation from the Premier League, visit Town in a mouth-watering opener.
But Bacuna says the squad are fully focused on implementing their new style against Brian BarryMurphy’s Rochdale side at the John Smith’s Stadium today.
“We will try to do the new style and if things go wrong, we can’t change it,” he added.
“We’ll stick with the plan and if we do that against Rochdale we can learn and then go with a good mindset into the Norwich game.
“From there, we can learn from any mistakes we make, improve on them and then make the good things even better.”
