Vallejo WON’T be involved at Wycombe, Corberan confirms

-

TOWN fans will have to wait a little longer to see midfielder Alex Vallejo feature at first-team level this season.

Vallejo has yet to make his Town debut since arriving on a free transfer from Spanish second tier club Fuenlabrada last month.

The 28-year-old, who penned a one-year deal with the option of a further year, was forced to quarantine for a fortnight after completing his switch.

Vallejo, who has made several appearances for the B team as he continues to work his way back to full fitness, will not be considered for selection at struggling Wycombe Wanderers tonight.

Terriers head coach Carlos Corberan said: “We want to work on very specific points. He has gone a long time without playing.

“We want to adapt him to the Championship demands.

“We don’t want to give him minutes until he’s ready to help the team.

“We are continuing to work with him. “He’s working closely with the physical coaches. We know he had to stay in quarantine for 14 days from when he arrived from Spain so he couldn’t work in the normal way.

“What we are doing with him is like a pre-season. We are using the B team to give him more minutes.

“If he goes well, he will play 90 minutes in the next B team game.

“That will help us analyse how he is and to help him to be more ready to compete.”

A former Spanish Under-19 international, Vallejo is regarded as a deep-lying midfielder but is equally capable of playing at centre-half.

“He has reacted very well to the work,” said Corberan. “He is working hard to get to his best level so he can help the team as soon as possible.”
