Carel singing the praises of his time with the Terriers

TERRIERS loanee Carel Eiting is determined to make the most of his spell in the Championship and develop his all-around game.

It took a few matches for the Dutchman to truly find his feet but he has emerged as a key figure for Huddersfield Town in recent weeks, popping up in space on the edge of the box to score three times in their last five games.

This is the first time he has plied his trade outside the hallowed halls of Ajax having come through its worldfamous academy.

The Dutch giants have a wellestablished and highly-technical playing style directly influenced by the great Johan Cruyff and his own mentor, Rinus Michels, the innovator of Total Football.

That has given Eiting perhaps the finest footballing education a young player can possibly enjoy – but also means his loan at Town is a great opportunity to broaden his horizons.

“The players are different profiles so every player around me is different, has a different vision of the game. For me I have to adapt to that,” he said.

“I think it’s way more physical here and in Holland maybe it’s a little bit more tactical and technical. I think those are the biggest differences.

“That’s one of the things I really love and enjoy about playing abroad: learning different styles, different aspects of the game, but also outside the game a different environment and culture in England.

“Just talking to people around the club you learn so many new things and new ways of looking at things. It’s really nice.”

Eiting is equally happy with his life off the pitch, saying: “To be honest I think it’s amazing here. I’m really happy.

“I hope when Covid will be less of a problem my family can come over and see everything and, hopefully, I can play in front of the fans because that’s the biggest thing I’m hearing about England from the players, from everybody, that it’s just an unbelievable experience.

“That’s also one of the reasons I’m here, so I really hope I can play in front of the fans.

“I think the most important thing is your mindset. I knew I was coming into a totally different environment and that I needed to adapt and not just do my own thing but try to learn and understand what everybody wants here from me.

“That was the biggest thing I did well here, knowing that things will be different. It was hard in the beginning but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, so I think that’s also really important.

“I was just happy to be here and happy to play matches. If you’re happy everything will be fine.”
