Corberan hit by Josh injury blow

“He felt it was the right moment for me to be back and play which felt good.

“It had been frustrating waiting to play but if you’re patient and keep your spirits up, that day will come.

“Getting the phone call to come back was surreal.

“Having gone from not playing last season to being wanted back was just the most unreal feeling.

“I only played three games last season and had only started one, so I didn’t know or understand why he wanted me.

“I was so confused, in a good way, but still very confused as to why he wanted me when I had such little game time.”

And Mbenza was so keen to make an impression on his new boss, he returned early to get a head start in pre-season.

He revealed: “When I first came back in the summer, I came back three weeks before everyone else.

“I was on my own with no one around. I got my head down though and worked hard, so hard, every day training and trying to improve my game and myself.”

CARLOS Corberan fears red-hot Josh Koroma will be missing for Huddersfield Town’s weekend trip to Bournemouth.

The winger notched his seventh goal of the season, and his third in as many home games, during the impressive derby win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Koroma dazzled once more for Town but exited the action just after the hour mark after stretching a muscle.

Corberan said: “With the accumulation of games it will create this type of injury to the players.

“It’s a different type of feeling with Josh. I don’t think Jonathan Hogg is going to take a lot of time to recover, but I think Koroma is going to take a little bit more time to recover.

“It was one action in the opposite box where he stretched the muscle that unfortunately created an injury.

“We will need to wait for the scan to come back but I think it will take a bit more time than we would like.”

Skipper Christopher Schindler suffered a nasty-looking knee injury at the weekend and Corberan provided an update on the German.

He said: “Yesterday he had the scan and the image of the scan was not clear about the type of the injury that he has.

“We need to wait a bit to see another specialist to see whether know how long it will take for him (to get back).

“But it’s not going to be a simple injury.

“I would like to have him soon but I think it will be a more serious injury than we would like, of course.”

Defender Demeaco Duhaney was not part of the squad against Wednesday but Corberan insists it was merely a precaution after a slight knock in training.

He added: “He felt something in the groin so we decided we weren’t going to take any type of risk with him.”
