ELF AND SAFETY!

COVID-BUSTING CLEANERS KEEPING TRAINS SHIPSHAPE

- By DAVE HIMELFIELD

A CRACK team of Covid-busting cleaners is keeping rail passengers across the North of England safe.

The squad of 17 coronavirus fighters has been working flat-out to ensure all surfaces of the carriages, which passengers come into contact with, are virus-free.

The team, based at Huddersfield Station, is one of 20 sanitation teams laid on by operator TransPennine Express (TPE).

Passenger numbers are expected to rise in the run-up to Christmas so the cleaners have been channelling their inner elf whilst washing, wiping, scrubbing and sanitising every area within the 100-plus carriages operating throughout the North.

And to check the trains are sufficiently clean Mrs Claus, aka Emma Teale, TPE Customer Experience Manager, has been spot-checking the carriages before customers board their trains.

Emma said: “I couldn’t be prouder of our team of sanitation saviours in Huddersfield. We can’t thank them enough for the job they have been doing to help keep our passengers safe during this year.

“We’re thrilled that we can further support the team with a £1.7m investment that will ensure the creation of local jobs in Huddersfield.”

Sanitation buster Alex Klimowicz added: “Keeping our customers safe is our number one priority and it’s been rewarding to know that we’re helping to achieve that.”

TPE has said it will be deploying extra measures and staff to help at

stations as they become busier during the festive season.

Those planning to travel during that period - particularly between December 23 and 27 when coronavirus restrictions will be eased - are advised to book their tickets in advance and allow extra time for their journeys as services may be busier than usual for this year.

Face coverings are essential for all but those with medical exemptions at all stations and on all trains.
