CASTLEFORD have announced winger James Clare has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club for the

2021 season.

It will be the 29-year-old’s eighth season playing for his hometown club, with whom he made his Super League debut in 2012.

Clare said: “For me this year, it was quite an easy decision to re-sign, I didn’t want to look elsewhere or test the market.

“I love playing for the Castleford Tigers, so I’m happy to get a deal with them over the line as quickly as possible.”

After the season resumption, he showed his versatility by filling in at full-back and centre for the injury-hit side.

Head coach Daryl Powell said: “He just works so hard on his game, he is so committed to what he does and one of the players who works the hardest and is reaping the rewards. I’m delighted to see him sign this extension, I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing how far he can improve and grow as a player.”

■■CATALANS Dragons backrower Matt Whitley has signed a two-year contract extension with the French club.

The 24-year-old England Knights international joined the Catalans from Widnes Vikings in 2019 and scored eight tries in 14 appearances last season for the Super League club.
