Super-slimmer mum sheds 6st in a year

EMILY DROPS 12 DRESS SIZES

- By ANDREW ROBINSON

STEPPING onto the weighing scales at her mum’s house left Emily Coldwell feeling shocked and upset.

Emily had known that her weight had been creeping up over the years but hadn’t realised just how much she had put on. She was shocked to see the scales hovering around 21 stone.

She said: “I felt sick, if I am honest. At the time I wished I hadn’t got on the scales, but I am glad that I did.”

The shock spurred her into joining Slimming World and she used lockdown to focus on healthy eating and exercise. Her son, Henry, three, provided the inspiration to get fit and lose weight. She said: “I didn’t want to be the fat mum at the school gates. I didn’t want him to be embarrassed about the way I looked.”

Emily, 29, of Moldgreen in Huddersfield, started the Slimming World plan in January – when she weighed about 19st 8lbs – and has managed to lose just over six stone.

She said: “I feel amazing. My confidence level has gone from zero to 100. It has skyrocketed. I used to hate the way I looked and was never happy. It has given me a different sense of confidence and I feel like I can do anything.”

She describes the Slimming World plan as a ‘lifestyle change’ and not a diet. She still enjoys chocolate but has shunned takeaways for home-made healthier options.

Emily, who works part-time as a carer, can now climb stairs at home without getting breathless and enjoys regular walks from her home up to Almondbury and back.

Having a dog – and an active son – has helped her focus on living an active lifestyle, she says. She now enjoys wearing size 12-14 clothes – but this means she has had to get rid of lots of clothes in sizes 22 and 24.

Emily says that her Slimming World consultant helped keep her on track through online meetings during lockdown. She said: “Back when this all began, I panicked a bit. I could not concentrate on my weight loss or eating as healthily as I did before because everything else seemed so up in the air.

“Once they started our virtual groups though, things changed.

“It is good to keep in touch with everyone even if it is only on screen.

“I soon got back all the encouragement, love, and support I had had from the other members before.

“I realised that while I might not be able to meet up with my consultant and fellow members in person, I had a whole world of support online.

“I am not feeling on my own with my weight-loss now and I feel more motivated than ever before.”
