Town target set to leave Ireland

HUDDERSFIELD Town target Danny Grant has confirmed he is set leave Ireland to continue his career overseas upon the expiry of his Bohemians contract at the end of this month.

The versatile forward’s deal with the club expires at the turn of the new year with the League of

Ireland’s 2020 season having concluded last month.

Bohemians finished second behind Shamrock Rovers with Grant scoring seven of their 23 goals, largely off the left wing.

His good form has attracted the attention of several English clubs in recent months and Yorkshire Live understands Huddersfield Town are leading the chase for his signature.

Grant attached the following statement to a tweet: “One of the toughest decisions I’ll make to leave this amazing club. Four special years that feels more like ten.

“So grateful for all of the people I have met during my time at the club who have helped me get to this point. Want to say a massive thank you to the management, the staff, my teammates and especially the fans who have been so good to me over the last few years.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to put on that jersey and I look forward to seeing the club continue to go in the right direction and supporting from abroad!”

If a deal can be struck to bring him to Town in the coming days he would be available to play from January 1 onwards.

The Terriers were already short on wing options even before Josh Koroma was ruled out for the next three to four months with a hamstring injury he picked up during the 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday last week.

Grant’s ability to play anywhere across the front three would therefore be attractive to Corberan, especially as strikers Danny Ward and Kieran Phillips have suffered injury problems. Despite the 20 year old being available on a Bosman, his age means an indeterminate amount of compensation would be payable to Bohemians by Grant’s new club unless a suitable fee could be agreed to negate the need to hold a tribunal.

Grant was nominated for the League of Ireland Premier Division player of the year and won young player of the year.
