RESIDENTS REACT AS HUDDERSFIELD PLACED

- By CONNOR TEALE connor.teale@trinitymirror.com

RESIDENTS of Huddersfield have overwhelmingly dismissed the notion that the town is amongst the top three worst places to live in England.

A list recently published by iLiveHere revealed the ‘Top 10 Worst Places to Live in England’ as voted for by the people who live and work there.

Somewhat surprisingly, six of the top 10 worst places to live in the country are apparently in Yorkshire, with Huddersfield claiming third on the list.

The other Yorkshire spots to appear in the top ten are Doncaster (2), Rotherham (5), Keighley (7), Wakefield (8), and Halifax (10).

On the back of the news, Huddersfield residents speaking to The Examiner’s sister website YorkshireLive have launched a staunch defence of their town, hailing its incredible architecture and beautiful countryside.

But a minority seemed to concede Huddersfield deserved its place in the top three, with much of the blame directed at the town centre.

Here’s what residents had to say on whether or not they felt Huddersfield had been unfairly represented by iLiveHere’s list. (third) on the list. There’s a lot of great parks and I think the people of Huddersfield are lovely.

“The architecture is fantastic. Few people actually do look up, but if you do you’ll notice that there’s some fantastic architecture in Huddersfield.

“There’s a lot of good things about the town. It’s not all bad and anyone who says it is is wrong, I think.”

Lynne added it was ‘sad’ that Huddersfield had been ranked third on the list before referring to the Huddersfield Blueprint investment, which she says “would make the town a lot more welcoming.”
