Town’s winning ways? It’s all down to trousers!
HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Carlos Corberan has acknowledged that he is under pressure to keep selecting his cream chinos after they helped to deliver another victory for his side.
The Terriers head coach was again resplendent in his famous light-coloured trousers as he took to the touchline for the 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon – a sartorial choice that supporters have come to recognise as a positive omen.
Fan blog Terrier Spirit actually took the time last month to sit down and work out Huddersfield Town’s points per game depending on Corberan’s legwear.
As of the Middlesbrough game, Corberan wearing his cream chinos resulted in his side claiming 1.67 points per game, while any alternative attire saw them take just one point per game.
We will leave it to them to provide an a further update on how things have unfolded (and been worn, washed and re-folded) since then.
They hypothesised: “It’s quite possible that these chinos, as well as providing an elegant look, are somehow giving Huddersfield Town an edge in tight games this season.
“Maybe the seamstress who made them was a voodoo witch who cast a spell over them. Or perhaps Carlos wears these trousers when he’s feeling confident and he transmits that to his players on the pitch on cream chino days.”
The trend subsequently got a mention on highlights show EFL On Quest, and fans have started to respond to the club’s pre-match team arrival videos by looking out for what Corberan is wearing and replying with ‘CHINOS’ if the fabled garment is indeed being worn.
And after the trousers successfully led Town to that win over Watford, left-back Harry Toffolo simply tweeted: ‘Trust the Chinos’.
Asked after the game if he was aware of the unlikely hype surrounding his wardrobe, Corberan said: “I like wearing more than one but now I have a lot of pressure and I can’t change them once!
“I hope one day when I put the black ones on that we can win the game.
“I would like to have the power to control games just with my legs or with my vest!
“But I think all the merit of any positive result is for all the players who work for the team and give a high level of commitment and a high level of effort and are making the impossible possible sometimes.”
