RELIVE MEMORIES OF LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE WITH A STAY AT NORA BATTY’S COTTAGE

- By CRAIG JONES

THE Last of The Summer Wine is one of British TV’s best-known institutions and for those of you who really love it you can stay in Nora Batty’s Yorkshire cottage.

The BBC comedy, filmed in Holmfirth, ran from 1973 to 2010 and followed legendary characters Compo, Foggy and Norman Clegg.

If you’d like to take a trip down memory lane, when it is safe to do so, you can actually spend the night in battleaxe Nora’s cottage.

Based in Holmfirth, the accommodation has two double bedrooms, a kitchen and dining space, a spacious living room and a bathroom that are all fitted out.

It is available from £300 per week and can be booked through Host Unusual.

The online listing reads: “This is one of the most recognisable homes on television, and a house known not only for its beautiful riverside location, but also because it was once home to the prim, proper, and somewhat scary Nora Batty.

“We’re sure Last of the Summer Wine needs no introduction, but just in case, the show remains the longest-running comedy series in UK television history. Packed with loveable characters who were endearingly young at heart, the programme won a very special place in the affections of a great many people. It was even said to

be the Queen’s favourite show. Certainly, the programme proved that age is no barrier to having fun every now and again.

“Built in the late 18th Century, this terraced two-bedroomed cottage is accessed via its famous stone steps and is imbued with plenty of charm and character. Step inside and you will find it is furnished and decorated in a nostalgic vintage style, just as the formidable Nora left it.

“Fans of the long-running show will adore the many pictures from the series which are displayed throughout, while contemporary creature comforts, including WiFi and a FreeSat television, add an unobtrusive touch of the home-from-home.”

Earlier this year, we asked you to vote for your favourite Yorkshire television show of all-time.

You ranked Last of The Summer Wine as number one in our vote. Happy Valley and Heartbeat completed the top three.
