THE man who was shot dead on a Huddersfield street on Saturday night has been named locally as Jamal Nedd.

Police were called to Ripon Avenue, Fartown, at 9.10pm after reports of two shots being fired at the address.

One man said Jamal was in a white car and he heard him crying out for help. He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

A murder investigation was launched and three arrests have now been made.

Ripon Avenue and Cawthorne Avenue were cordoned off while police conducted their enquiries.

Tributes have been paid to Jamal on Facebook.

One woman wrote: “A mother has lost her son today, and I can’t see past that fact.

“Nothing is worth your life; wether (sic) it be a life in the ground or a life in jail. You man need to learn there’s nothing worth that price. Deeply saddened by the news we all woke up to today, please break the cycle. Rest in peace Jamal - what a life to take.”

Another wrote: “R.I.P Jamal, my condolences to all family and friends.”

An eyewitness to the shooting said he heard two loud bangs at 9.10pm on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old said: “I was watching TV when it happened and so I paused it so I could hear better.

“I could hear a man shouting for help – ‘help me, help me.’

“My uncle went out to help and there was this guy in a white car who had been shot. He stayed with him until some more people came to help. He’s a bit shaken up by what happened.”

Yesterday a 41-year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 28-year-old man who was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody for questioning. The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, (HMET), would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident which took place at 9.09pm.

Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries and neighbourhood policing teams will be increasing patrols in and around the Fartown and surrounding areas.

Det Chief Inspector Marc Bowes of HMET said: “A number of active enquiries are ongoing regarding what has clearly been a very serious incident, resulting in the murder of a 26-year-old man.

“We do believe this was a targeted attack on the victim and are continuing to hold three men in custody for questioning regarding the case.

“I am very much continuing to appeal for information and witnesses as we investigate what took place and we would ask anyone who can assist our enquiries who may not yet have come forwards to do so.

“NPT officers have been conducting extra patrols in the local area as they would do after any very serious crime of this nature and we can reassure residents that we do think this was an isolated incident.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Anyone with any information or who witnesses anything suspicious last night in the Fartown area is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101 or use the contact us options at www. westyorkshire. police.uk/contactus quoting crime reference 13200634445.

“Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

We believe this was a targeted attack and continue to hold three men for questioning.
