WHO ‘SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN’

- By JENNA THOMPSON

A POPULAR tearoom has hit back at a customer who left a review complaining about service.

The woman took to Facebook to say she would not recommend The Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom in Holmfirth.

She wrote: “First time ordering afternoon tea for two. The customer service was that appalling, tried putting me off date I wanted then said some of the food would not be home made.”

The customer also complained of issues with payments saying the tearoom “would not take my payment which tried several times to pay saying they did not have the card machine for nearly a week”.

She added: “Did not contact me when said they would. So would not recommend.”

The owner wrote on the tearoom’s Facebook page: “I wouldn’t normally share a bad review but just thought I’d let all my lovely loyal customers see this one and my reply lol.”

The tearoom, which is rated 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor 4.8 out of 5 on Google Reviews, is currently closed because of Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions but is offering a takeaway service.

They have also provided afternoon tea packages to a charity supporting isolated people.

The owner responded to the customer’s review saying they are in the middle of a pandemic and “need all the business”.

They wrote: “Really are you joking.

Firstly our customer service is second to none you can see this from our reviews.

“You placed your order via telephone when we were at home and you said for some unknown reason you can’t pay by bank transfer like most people do.

“You asked us to call you in a week’s time. After trying many times which we have a record of, you didn’t answer. Then you finally called back when again we were at home and did not have our card machine with us as this is at our business which is currently closed due to Covid.

“You eventually called us Thursday morning to inform us you wanted to cancel and slammed the phone down.

“What are you talking about not homemade food, 90 per cent of our food is homemade and why would we put you off a date, we are in the middle of a pandemic and need all the business we need.” They finished by saying: “But not to worry your review will not affect us just take a look at our 5 star recommendations.”

The tearoom was backed by loyal customers who showed their support on Facebook.

One said: “Moved from hudds 5 years ago come back when we can love the wrinkled stocking feel so jealous when people order your take aways a amazing place to eat.”

Another said: “Some people have nothing better to do in life. Pandemic going on in the world and all she can do is dig at you for no reason. Don’t worry about her she’s no loss xx.”
