I AM one of those unfortunate people who live in the Huddersfield constituency represented by Barry Sheerman.

I strongly support Louise Lewis, a black PE teacher who has been victimised as a trade union representative by the management of North Huddersfield Trust High School. A fantastic rally was held in her support outside the school on Thursday morning. Instead of being there as a representative of the Labour movement, my MP condemned people from even as far away as the Colne Valley for protesting ‘on his patch.’

Sir Keir Starmer is purging the Labour Party of his enemies and now his chum Barry Sheerman wants to go a step further by controlling who should be allowed to protest in his constituency. The Labour Party was founded by the Trade Unions to improve the lives of the working class.

Sheerman’s actions are a disgrace and it is no wonder so many trade unions are considering following the railway workers and disaffiliating from the party. Louise has had tremendous support from pupils, fellow staff, parents and the local community with nearly 2000 signatures collected on a petition to support her.

Barry can have his little meeting with ‘important’ people; good luck to him.

But the lesson of this town is that if you want to defend trade unionists, stop workplace bullying and save the health service you need to follow the lead of the Hands off HRI campaign and fight with determination. After all the hospital is still open.

As for Barry Sheerman and the Labour Party –0 what an embarrassment!
