Why our refuse collectors have to work bank holidays
BIRTHDAYS: Noel Edmonds, TV presenter, 72; Ralph Fiennes, actor, 58; Dan Petrescu, former footballer and manager, 53; Gary Anderson, darts player, 50; Vanessa Paradis, actress/model, 48; Leigh Halfpenny, Welsh rugby player, 32; Jordin Sparks, singer, 31.
I WRITE to back up Nowt Reet regarding the letter he wrote on Saturday.
I just want to point out there are two Cllr Halls on the council. I am Steve the Labour councillor in Heckmondwike. I support the refuse collectors getting an extra day at Christmas.
They have done a fantastic job throughout the last year. Where I live they are as regular as clockwork.
The driver always manages to get up the road even though some folk park or abandon their cars on corners and footpaths.
Also let’s no forget the refuse collection staff work all bank holidays due to Compulsory Competitive Tendering. This was another devious scheme that Thatcher used to try and smash the unions and break local authorities.
It was privatise this that and the other under her dictatorship, selling off utilities that belonged to the people to feather the nests of the Tory sycophants.
To all Kirklees staff and officers – have a great Christmas and new year.
Right decision taken
I THOUGHT the letter from Peter Skuse printed in Saturday’s Examiner was excellent – bang on the money.
It has of course now been overtaken by events. I can only assume Carrie Symonds has stepped in again and told bumbling Boris what he needs to do. Although Boris may believe it to be ‘inhuman,’ scaling right back what people are allowed to do at Christmas is undoubtedly the right decision.
This will almost certainly cause more trouble for Boris with some of his back bench MPs. There seem to be plenty of these with a real lack of common sense and pragmatism. What is it about the Conservative Party that leaves many of them to believe ‘Joe Bloggs’ has a far better understanding of things than acknowledged experts in their respective fields? To see the
NHS overwhelmed in the new year would have been truly unforgivable.
Priti good call over protester’s £10k fine
WELL done Priti Patel and the Metropolitan Police for getting tough on lockdown protests by fining the organiser of the latest London protest £10,000. Enough is enough.
This should be seen as a warning to people in other areas of the country planning such action.
Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock are doing their utmost to protect our nation from the new strain of coronavirus.
Therefore, people must obey the rules, protect our great NHS, and save lives.
And if that means MPs being forced to work from outside of London for the coming weeks during either any possible recall or when they return after Christmas then so be it.
