LINCOLN TRANSFER

AND TOWN DISCUSSING

- By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

HUDDERSFIELD Town are negotiations over a loan deal Flamengo’s Lincoln, according reports in the Brazilian media.

Vene Casagrande, a journalist for newspaper O Dia, has claimed the two clubs are in talks over an initial 18-month loan with an option to buy.

The report indicates that Flamengo are keen for the striker to have a change of scenery after an alleged falling-out with Flamengo CEO Bruno Spindel revolving around the player being asked to play for the club’s youth team.

They also report that the Brazilian was previously of interest to Cypriot side Pafos, but they have now given up on their pursuit.

Danny Williams and Jason Puncheon went there after leaving Town last year.

Casagrande also says negotiations between Town and Flamengo are progressing nicely and without any particular rush from either side.

The centre forward, who turned 20 last week, has made 37 league appearances for Flamengo since breaking into the first team aged 16 in 2017, scoring four goals.

He has also appeared for the club in in for to various cup competitions including the Copa Libertadores, which would help his chances of being eligible to move to England under the new post-Brexit points-based work permit regulations.

Flamengo’s league title victories in 2017 and 2020 should also help earn the forward points if a deal were to be reached for him to move to West Yorkshire next month.

The Terriers have been short on attacking options this season after a move for Newcastle United’s Rolando Aarons fell through on transfer deadline day in October.

Top scorer Josh Koroma has since been ruled out until at least March with a hamstring injury and summer signing Danny Ward has struggled with hamstring issues of his own throughout the season.

Town have already announced the signing of Irish forward Danny Grant, who will join from Bohemians on January 2.
