Corberan hails signing of prospect Grant for Town
...BUT BOSS ADMITS HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE YOUNG STRIKER
HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Carlos Corberan has highlighted the qualities he believes Danny Grant will bring to the club.
The Terriers confirmed the signing of the forward last week from Irish club Bohemians.
The 20-year-old penned a contract until 2023 and will officially join the Terriers on January 2 when the transfer window re-opens.
He scored seven goals in 17 games for Bohemians and upon his arrival at Town he is expected to be bedded in by playing for the B team before Corberan and his coaches assess whether he is ready for the step up to the first team.
Interestingly, the Town boss admitted he did not take part in original discussions to shortlist Grant, but said he is fully behind the decision as he sees plenty of potential in the youngster.
And he has praised the work of the club’s head of football operations Leigh Bromby for the work he and his team do.
“Danny is a very young player, but someone with a lot of skills,” said Corberan.
“If I’m honest, didn’t participate in the signing of him. He is a player that is going to need some time.
“We know he will need to adapt and continue his development process.
“As soon as we see he is ready to help the first team, then we can do that.
“He has a lot of positive things that we like. I trust a lot in the work that Leigh Bromby, and the people he works with, does.
“Before I arrived at the club they did a very good job, for example in the last year bringing in the likes of (Emile) Smith-Rowe, (Trevoh) Chalobah and (Chris) Willock.
I“They were very smart seeing what kind of players can help the club.”
Bromby spoke about Grant’s strengths during his unveiling last week. He said: “Danny has a lot of attributes that really suit our style of play.
“He’s a right-footed player who can play across the front three, but is particularly adept at cutting in from the left side.
“Just as importantly, you can see his enthusiasm in games, both when attacking and in doing his defensive work. “The step up to the Championship will be significant for Danny, and he will begin that development in training with the B Team alongside the first team squad.
“His task is to emulate the likes of Josh Koroma, who has really developed with us on the training pitches before coming into our team and making a big impact on our team and the division.”
He is going to need some time but as soon as he is ready to help the first team then
we do that
Rotherham confirmed ‘a number of further positive cases of Covid-19’ within the first-team squad meant the club were also now unable to fulfil the Boxing Day fixture at the Riverside Stadium.
The EFL will now open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the game, as it does with all such postponements.
