Corberan’s ready to go nuts about Brazilian signings

“He continued to feel something in the groin because he had an injury, but the scan was positive.

“As the days pass I think he is going to feel better. He is not 100 per cent, but he is training now with the group.”

Like Hamer, forward Danny Ward (hamstring) missed the last two games and Corberan believes it will be 2021 before he returns to the first-team fold.

“He is continuing to work with the medical staff,” added Corberan.

“I don’t expect to have him until maybe the beginning of next year.

“I don’t expect him to be available for the next games but he will start training after that.

“He had a long-term injury and that’s why we need to be very careful with him.

“We don’t want to see him make any steps back.

“I want him to have a proper recovery and fix his normal physical levels.

“We want to recover him so he can be his best for the club.”

Others on the treatment table at Town include skipper Christopher Schindler (knee), Richard Stearman and Josh Koroma (both hamstring).

CARLOS Corberan has confirmed Huddersfield Town are open to the possibility of signing players from South America.

The Terriers have this week been linked with two Brazilians - forward Lincoln and midfielder Yuri de Oliveira.

The duo both ply their trade at Flamengo and have been linked with loan switches to West Yorkshire in January.

Playmaker Yuri will turn 20 next week and made his senior debut for the reigning Brazilian and South American champions as a substitute in their 1-1 league draw with Palmeiras in September.

That remains his only appearance to date and he is said to have been working his way back from an injury recently.

Given the new tiered points system being introduced for clubs after Brexit, previously untapped markets such as South America may suddenly become a more viable hunting ground for

English clubs upon the turn of the new year.

When asked whether Town are considering dipping their toes in the South American market in January, Corberan said: “With the new regulations after Brexit, the market has changed a little bit in England.

“This is going to affect all the clubs.

“Now, South America perhaps becomes an important market that before it was not.

“As a club, what we need to be is open to analyse the world and especially the new possibilities that appear because some of the previous possibilities may now disappear.

“We need to be ready to analyse all possibilities.”

Corberan also touched on the relationship he has with

Town’s transfer and recruitment team.

Corberan name-checked head of football operations Leigh Bromby and highlighted the signing this week of Danny Grant as an indicator as to how he trusts the club’s system of signing players.

He added: “I work every day with Leigh Bromby analysing the improvements we can do.

“I work day-to-day with him. We both want exactly the same. We understand how we can continue to grow.

“I enjoy a lot my relationship with him and his people.

“If you start to recruit without the advice of a coach, then maybe that can create problems.

“That’s why we need to be close and together.”
