POLICE were searching a house after a 26-year-old man was shot in the head and murdered outside his home just days before Christmas.

Jamal Nedd was gunned down as he sat in a car outside his home in Ripon Avenue, Fartown, on December 19, in what is thought to be part of an intergang feud

Yesterday police officers continued a fingertip search of a detached house and garage on Park Drive opposite the tranquil surroundings of Greenhead

Park. Five police vehicles were parked on the street along with an unmarked police car.

A detective inspector at Huddersfield CID confirmed the raid was being carried out in connection with Jamal’s murder.

A police source said: “It’s thought that Jamal’s death was an accident – it was only supposed to be a warning but it went wrong and police are now worried that the other gang will carry out reprisals.”

West Yorkshire Police say Jamal’s death was a “targeted” killing and it has now made 11 arrests in connection with it but no-one has yet been charged.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman said he was very concerned about the drug dealing situation in the Huddersfield area and said he had urged that as many police resources as possible were made available to get on top of the situation.

He said: “I have been in touch with West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, and Huddersfield’s chief of police, Julie Sykes, regarding this very sad murder.

“The police in Kirklees have been very effective in dealing with violent crime linked to drugs but this has brought it all back.

“It’s always tragic when you have a loss of life like this and we know that so many of these incidents today are linked to organised crime and drugs.

“I want everyone to be absolutely aware that we have zero tolerance for drug dealing in this town and I want the police to make sure that for those involved their lives are made a misery and I will always try to make the case if there is a need for an increase in resources.”
