has explained what he feels his squad has to do to continue their promising progress in the new year, starting with this afternoon’s meeting with Reading at the John Smith’s Stadium.
“I think first of all in terms of attention to the different games,” he said. “It’s always necessary to have this adaptation because we’re playing one game where the opponent wants to play from the back and then one game where the opponent is going to play more directly.
“We need to have this adaptation with maybe two days between games and no time to train, only time to talk about it and not doing something.
“It’s never the same when you do something as it is when you’re listening to something.
“It’s always more strong, the impact, when you do a drill.
“So I think one of the keys is to continue adapting to the different games that the Championship demands because a lot of the time in a short time you’re playing against totally different shapes and styles and I cannot say that one style is better than another style.
“Both are demanding, both are totally different, so I think this gap for adaptation is going to be necessary for us.
“And always in football when you start to do something in a good way it’s always harder to continue doing it because all the opponents are going to analyse you and prepare for you.
“If they see you have success playing out they’re going to try to make it more difficult for you to play out.
“So I think in football you never arrive to a level where you can say ‘now it’s enough to face every opponent’ because every opponent is going to try to stop you, analyse and try to create problems for you. You never arrive at a moment where you’ve finished growing.
