It’s time to take a look at dull side of life
THE Dull Men’s Club Calendar features a chap who takes photographs of telegraph poles, a bloke who has collected a million postcards which are sensibly boxed rather than displayed, and a lady who photographs wet floor signs..
This seems like rich material for poking fun at someone else’s expense until you log on to the Dull Men’s Club website and find it laced with wonderfully dry humour that is a refuge from the madness of the world.
It offers inspirational quotes to bolster the confidence of those who are perhaps reticent about sharing passions less than exciting. “While it takes courage to find greatness, it takes more courage to find fulfilment in being ordinary.” And adds: “We don’t try to keep up with the Joneses. Who are the Joneses anyway?”
Blog topics on the site include Manhole Covers, Odometer Readings, Park Benches, Sheds, Roundabouts and Punography (that’s pun-ography), and they display an early suggestion for the perfect Valentine card a dull man might send which says simply: “You’ll Do.”
Anyone thinking of getting the calendar (it’s £11), might also consider their 2015 book Dull Men of Great Britain, which has been re-issued and is available on Amazon, which lists other suggestions for minority interest volumes. Such as Seats Of London: A Field Guide To London Transport Moquette Patterns, Kamikaze Kangaroos, Boring Postcards and Interesting Stories.
Oh, and by the way, a date for your diary, courtesy of the club:
January 27 is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. And who doesn’t enjoy popping bubble wrap?
