IS ‘MUCH NEEDED’
BEFORE NEXT GAME
FRAIZER Campbell admits he and his Huddersfield Town team-mates are relishing the chance to get some much-needed recovery time.
The Terriers, like all teams this season, have embarked upon a relentless run of matches due to the shoehorned nature of the Covidaffected campaign.
Games have come thick and fast, with Town playing eight games in December alone.
Add in the gruelling training sessions that boss Carlos Corberan puts his players through, in order to make his team as fit as possible to implement his tactics, and it’s no wonder the Town players are looking forward to a blank midweek before Saturday’s FA Cup game with Plymouth.
The next Championship outing is not until January 16, away at Watford.
Given the cup tie against the League One side is likely to see a raft of senior players given the day off with the league campaign the No.1 priority, it affords a rare period of rest and recovery for Corberan’s men.
Campbell said: “It’s been relentless. We’ve played a lot of football over the last couple of months.
“We’ve got a week now to rest up and recover before our next game,
The lads have worked really hard so it’s about feet up now, recover and then
go again
and it is muchneeded.
“The lads have worked really hard so it’s about feet up now, recover and then go again.”
Campbell notched his fifth goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Reading.
Despite understandably being disappointed by the setback against the Royals, Campbell feels content with how the Terriers have done in the first half of the season under Corberan.
They are just six points off an unlikely play-off tilt but crucially, considering last season’s battles with the drop, they have a healthy 12-point between themselves and the bottom three.
When assessing the first 23 games of the Spaniard’s stewardship, Campbell added: “I think we’ve done alright.
“The new manager came in and we only had two weeks of an offseason so it’s been full-on, relentless but the lads have worked tremendously hard.
“We’ve bought into the gaffer’s mentality and philosophy.
“We’ve started off really well but there’s still a lot of improvement to be had and, hopefully, we can continue improving and have a really good team by the end of the year.”
