Rescue team’s 4x4 plea

MOUNTAIN VOLUNTEERS NEED £40K TO FUND THEIR NEW LIFESAVING VEHICLE

- By PHOEBE FULLER

WOODHEAD Mountain Rescue Team are desperate for a new vehicle, after their busiest year yet.

The lifesaving volunteer team have issued a plea for help to fund the £40,000 4x4 replacement, which is essential in helping them to respond to emergencies.

The team said that 2020 was their “busiest year ever” and they are expecting yet more call-outs this month.

Posting on Facebook, the team said: “Could you help us hit our urgent target for an essential emergency response vehicle?

“Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team had some very bad luck at the end of 2020 and we find ourselves having to raise money pretty quickly. We had to retire one of our operational vehicles very unexpectedly, and we are now a crucial front line blue light vehicle short.

“The team experienced its busiest year ever in 2020 and the new year promises to be even more demanding, especially while we are missing a vehicle.

“Our target of £40k will allow us to buy a nearly new, super-capable, allterrain, Land Rover Discovery which will be our new primary off-road vehicle for the next 10 years or more.

“We are asking the generous business community, and good people who want to support the essential lifesaving volunteer work of mountain rescue, to come to our aid and help us reach our crucial target.”

But the team are also keen to give back to the local community, who they are relying on for help and support. They have said that the new vehicle will offer sponsorship opportunities for local businesses, who could sponsor the car and have their business logo emblazoned on the side.

“And they have even offered up their rear windscreen as prime real estate for the ‘window of well-wishers,’ which will include photographs of donors who have helped to fund the new car.

The team said: “You’ll proudly sit alongside fellow donors for the whole of the vehicle’s operational life with the team. That’s potentially a 10-year gift to a loved one and a great help to the lifesaving work of Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team.”
