Government repeating the same old mistakes

THERE are several elderly and vulnerable people in my family and as such, I despair at the recent actions of our Government.

We were told several weeks since a new strain of the virus had been discovered which is far more transmissible, and on December 22 the experts advising the Government told them they thought all schools should remain closed in the new year and a third national lockdown should be considered.

So what did Johnson do? He ignored the experts and what has this led to? The absolutely sickening number of deaths we are now seeing on a daily basis and the NHS on the brink of being overwhelmed.

The Government has learnt nothing and keeps repeating the same mistakes. Perhaps the worst thing about it all is it does not need to be like this. Countries like Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan prove what can be done.

The things they have got so right, which our Government has got so, so wrong include:

1. Totally prioritising public health which it is clear actually also leads to better economic outcomes as well.

2. Acting quickly and decisively.

3. Properly following the science.

4. Promptly securing their borders.

5. Having an effective Test and Trace system.

There is a poll in one of the Sunday newspapers which says the majority of people in our country think Johnson should resign and I could not agree more.

Surely there must be other people in the Conservative Party who could make a better fist of running the country than Johnson?

Delayed reaction

AT long last Boris Johnson has denounced the actions of his twin brother across the big pond.

Donald Trump has made democracy a laughing stock!

He is guilty of sedition and should have been impeached long ago. Johnson should cease cheerleading for Trump forthwith and concentrate - really concentrate with wise sound advisers - heed their words and act on it!

We cannot afford to do the hokey cokey any longer!

Too many changes

I WOULD like to know why Carlos Corberan made so many changes to the Town side for the cup match against Plymouth.

I can understand some changes and I must say the young players were fantastic. Yet to not even have any senior players on the bench was very strange.

I know the reason for Villa and Derby playing their youth teams, yet Plymouth play the same number of games as Town and only made two changes.

Corberan said the cup was special. I don’t think it was to him. The young players could leave the pitch with their heads held high – unlike our manager.

A very disappointed Town fan.

Fox News for UK?

MR Gill thinks the BBC is too left wing and criticism of Boris Johnson should stop

Some think the BBC is too right wing, maybe because it fears government curbs on freedom of speech.

Given differences of opinion, perhaps our public service broadcaster is close to striking the right balance.

The public interest is threatened, not by the BBC, but by a company planned by right wing extremists who want something similar to the USA’s Fox News. If they succeed appreciation of the BBC can only grow.

As for the Prime Minister, he invites criticism.

He was inconsistent on school closures and whether people should eat out or stay at home. He has offered false hope instead of following Sage’s advice.

He recklessly discharged NHS patients without Covid tests to private care homes. On top of all this he has delivered a Brexit full of holes.
