Rowe stunner is pick of the bunch

AARON Rowe’s stunning left-footed strike from 23 yards against Plymouth Argyle has been selected as one of the five best scored over FA Cup third round weekend.

The BBC selected the strike as part of their highlights reel of ‘FA Cup stunners’.

The 20-year-old netted his first senior goal after cutting inside from the right wing and finding the far top corner with a sweet strike on his weaker foot to restore Huddersfield Town’s lead in the 32nd minute.

It would have been a worthy winner in any game, but proved not to be enough for Carlos Corberan’s side as a full-strength Plymouth twice capitalised on poor Terriers defending to claim a 3-2 away victory and put their name in the fourth round draw.

Rowe spoke to Town’s official YouTube channel after the game, saying: “I’ve always said my left foot is better than my right even though I’m right-footed, but it’s bittersweet not to get the win.

“I’m proud to get my first professional goal. It means a lot to me and my family.

“All my family at home was watching but, of course, it’s bittersweet.”

Rowe was making his ninth appearance for the club after making his debut against Bournemouth towards the end of their stay in the Premier League in March 2019.

He had joined from Leyton Orient as a winger the previous year but has since been converted into a full-back or wing-back for the Town B team.

His appearance against Plymouth marked the third time Rowe had completed the full 90 minutes for Corberan’s first team this season, with all of them coming either at right-back or right wing-back though he has also made brief appearances from the bench on the wing.
