‘Hindsight’ jibe wide of mark in terrible times

Perhaps he could apologise to those families who have pointlessly lost their loved ones because the Boris Johnson government failed to protect care homes or, again and again, took action on Covid only when it was already far too late.

It is quite obvious, and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t accept this, that the Government failure to lockdown over the Christmas holiday period paved the way for the current Covid wave and more unnecessary deaths.

It is not hindsight, just a plain fact that more UK citizens have died from Covid than died in both world wars from German bombing. We rightly regard that as a tragedy – this is worse.

It is a fact that the UK has the highest number of deaths in Europe and also the most excess ones. The UK has had the highest peak of deaths and the slowest descent. When others saw a flattening ours kept on growing. Except for Belgium

and Spain (explained by the larger number of elderly people), the UK has the worst record in Europe.

It is not ‘pointless hindsight’ for the more than 60,000 people estimated by the NHS to be suffering from ‘long Covid.’ The NHS has now set up more than 40 clinics to help with this very serious problem.

Perhaps Mr Schofield could stop sending tosh and join the call for a full judicial public inquiry into the worst scandal in this country for a century.

Just what is PM pedalling this time?

HERE we are again.

Do as we say but don’t expect us to do the same. We all know that Johnson is a jokey bloke who enjoys a laugh.

We only have to look at his cabinet if we doubt his character. So when he tells us to stay at home and exercise locally we look for a punchline.

It duly arrived with the information that he has been caught cycling in the Olympic Park some seven miles from his home! Not a problem if he cycled from his front door, but if he was driven there, then hmm...

I wonder if he will be fined. And I wonder if anyone really believes that Johnson will get the vaccine roll-out right.

We know that there are problems already with ‘logistics.’

They said that about PPE in March if you remember.

We also know that the Tories really can’t be trusted not to look after their friends first, so while I live in hope that they get this right I am not optimistic.
