Defence is key to Corberan’s plans for rest of the season

Huddersfie­ld Town have enjoyed an overall positive first half of the season given expectatio­ns, and Corberan is determined to continue that as they embark on the second half of the campaign.

A challengin­g trip to Watford is first up for the Terriers on Saturday afternoon, and under new manager Xisco Munoz the Hornets already look like a very different team to the one that lost 2-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium three-and-a -half weeks ago.

But Town head coach Corberan will have his sights firmly set on repeating that clean sheet at Vicarage Road to help reassure him that his side won’t concede as many as 32 goals over their next 23 games.

Corberan said: “Our ambition for the rest of the season...the clear target that we have is to be the most competitiv­e team we can be in the Championsh­ip.

“Before the FA Cup game our target was to continue in the competitio­n because we wanted to continue giving minutes to the players to help grow the squad.

“But as soon as you’re eliminated, you need to accept it and just concentrat­e on the competitio­n we are playing.

“It’s going to be a high challenge for us. It’s going to be very demanding like it was in the first lap and I expect the second lap to be even more demanding.

“What we need to do is keep improving as a team to be the best team we can be on the pitch.”
