Grant is getting his body used to training full time

TERRIERS fans got their first look at new signing Rolando Aarons as a second-half substitute against Plymouth Argyle - but will have to wait to see fellow new arrival Danny Grant in action.

Grant arrived from Irish side Bohemians as Huddersfield Town’s first signing of the January transfer window and spoke enthusiastically and well after being put up for pre-match media duties by the club on Friday afternoon.

Head coach Carlos Corberan had indicated he might look to include Grant as part of his much-changed squad for Saturday evening’s FA Cup third round clash.

But he was absent from the teamsheet, and it transpires the winger had felt a little something in his hamstring in the Friday afternoon training session that followed the press conference.

The Town boss explained after the game that Grant’s omission was more a precaution than anything else as the Irish under-21 international adapts to going from a part-time training schedule with Bohemians to the much more rigorous training regime at his new club.

Asked if he expects Grant to be out for long, Corberan said: “No, we don’t expect that.

“He felt something in training on Friday in the hamstring. I think it’s related that he doesn’t have the habit of training [many times] in a row like our players are trained.

“He’s a player that usually was working like three times a week at his previous club and now his body is going to take a bit of adaptation to have the habit of training consecutively, with high intensity and with players who are in the Championship.

“This was always going to be a bit of an adaptation process that he was going to need.”

October arrival Alex Vallejo was a stand-out performer for Town in the 3-2 Cup defeat by Plymouth, but has also taken time to get used to the demands of English football after nearly a year without competitive action – while Corberan has braced fans for the possibility that Aarons too might need a bit of a bedding in period as his previous senior outing was in March last year.

Grant himself had talked about his own personal gear-shift on Friday, saying: “It’s quite different. It’s really intense, really hard-working, but I knew before I came here that it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.

“Everybody speaks about how hard this teams works and how fit they are, that’s probably one of the biggest things about this team, so I knew it would be like that.

“The training is quite different. Obviously I won’t have done doublesessions in Ireland being a part-time player so that’s obviously difficult but I’ll adapt to that and I’m really enjoying it so far.”
