Future unravels as spinning firm goes bust
ELLAND Metal Spinning, which has been operating since just after the end of the Second World War, has gone into administration with the loss of 15 jobs.
Ossett based insolvency practitioner, Phil Booth of Booth & Co has been appointed as administrator of Middleton & Cruddas Limited, known within the industry as Elland Metal Spinning.
In one guise or another the company has served a loyal customer base since 1946 from their Halifax base.
The combination of traditional hand spinning alongside modern CNC machining processes allowed a plethora of apprentices and time served artisans to pass through the company’s employment.
However, difficult trading conditions, further compounded by the coronavirus pandemic, led to a position where the business proved unviable.
The Elland-based business ceased to trade on 3 December last year and all 15 employees were made redundant immediately on the administrator’s appointment.
The Machinery and Business Assets department of Walker Singleton has been appointed to realize the assets and have committed to an online auction set to close on Thursday, 21 January.
Director, Daniel Hey, said: “Elland Metal Spinners were a wellknown and respected manufacturer in the local business community with stronger recognition in the specialist UK spinning industry, which has a solid West Yorkshire presence.
“Since the appointment, time has been committed to supporting a smooth transition of supply for existing customers through the return of third-party tooling, alongside extracting value from the toolsets owned by the business.
“The focus now turns to the manufacturing plant and site support equipment, which presents a diverse asset base that will appeal to a range of businesses at local, regional and national level.’
“Covid compliance is a high priority. The auction is held exclusively online with no live, site-based interaction.
“Comprehensive imagery and lot description is available to guide bidders and the site clearance will be undertaken under strict social distancing measures.”
