Town in no rush for Sorba loan
to attack. In some ways he reminds me of Lewis O’Brien, not only because of his career and his background but his mentality too.
“I think he reflects perfectly the mentality that we want to have here.”
Corberan also believes that loan experience at Shrewsbury will stand High in good stead.
He said: “Without that experience it would be more complicated for him to be involved in the team and be comfortable in a game.”
The Town boss also has a decision to make at centre-back with Naby Sarr set to miss the trip to Watford with an injury of his own. Romoney Crichlow has filled in as Town’s leftsided centre-back on five occasions this season - three of them starts, including against Plymouth - and Corberan has also previously discussed the possibility of playing Harry Toffolo as a left-sided centreback.
“We are considering both options that’s why the previous game was important,” he said.
“We need to make the decision whether we play Romoney Crichlow as a centre-back or we go for Toffolo because both players are capable of covering Naby Sarr.”
HUDDERSFIELD Town will not rush into any decisions over Sorba Thomas’ future after making him their third signing of the January transfer window.
Reports have suggested the new arrival from National League side Boreham Wood is set to go straight out on loan to League Two Harrogate Town.
Football Insider claim: “A temporary move is set to be announced after he signed for the Terriers from Boreham Wood. A recruitment source has told Football Insider Thomas will join League Two outfit Harrogate for the rest of this campaign.”
However, the Examiner understands no loan deal is expected to be announced imminently.
Carlos Corberan and his coaching staff are keen to see what Thomas can do on the training ground firsthand for a period before deciding the most appropriate next step for him to continue his development.
A loan is not out of the question and he could well end up being at Harrogate Town if that is the route Town decide to go, but it’s also possible that Thomas might be kept with the Terriers as a first-team option or that the club decide his development would be best served learning Corberan’s style in the B team.
That wait-and-see approach was reflected in the club’s statement announcing the versatile forward’s signing.
Head of football operations Leigh Bromby said: “The step from the National League to the
Championship is a big one and we will take every necessary step to help him be successful. We will assess what is best for Sorba once he’s trained with us.”
The 21-year-old has joined on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee and signed a contract running until summer 2024, with the club holding the option to trigger a further year’s extension.
A former West Ham academy player, Thomas has risen through the ranks at Boreham Wood, helping them to reach the play-offs twice and scoring three goals in 10 games so far this season.
His arrival follows on the heels of fellow attackers Danny Grant from Irish side Bohemians and Rolando Aarons from Newcastle United.
