HUDDERSFIELD binmen saved the life of a man who suffered two heart attacks in the street.

Chris Lennon had begun suffering pain in his arms and shoulders before Christmas and was on his way to buy painkillers from a chemist but collapsed on Dewhirst Road, Fartown, before he could get there.

Fortunately for him, he was spotted lying in the road by Mick McDermott, Andy Borowy and Chris Armand, who performed life-saving CPR on him.

Paramedics took over and an ambulance transported Chris to Calderdale Royal Hospital, where he remained in intensive care for 10 days.

Chris, 56, who works in a warehouse and has lived in Fartown for 20 years, said he was anxious to meet his three rescuers.

He said: “I don’t remember anything about it, I don’t know what happened, only what I have been told.

“I know I had been suffering some pain in my arms and shoulders and was on my way to meet my friend Bobby at the Post Office when it happened. I don’t remember collapsing.

“Apparently I suffered two heart attacks and they had to put a stent in my chest.

“I would love to meet the guys who saved my life and say thank you to them, I’m hoping to see them on Monday when they’re doing their rounds.

“That’s all I want to do is to find them because basically I wouldn’t be here without them.”

His sister, Debbie Lennon said: “I would like to say they are absolute heroes and without them my brother probably wouldn’t be here now. I can’t thank them enough. “Chris is a hard-working man and very strong-willed. He loves to have a pint after work and a few games of pool – he’s captain of the pool team at The Harp pub on Bradford Road, Fartown.”
