Carlos short of options as injuries bite Terriers

NORMALLY when a team is in a rut, major changes can help freshen up the side.

If only Huddersfield Town were in a position to do so.

The Terriers are on a wretched run of just one win in their last 12 league games.

Admittedly, they secured a point in their last outing - the tiresome midweek stalemate with fellow strugglers Birmingham City.

But next up is about as tough a game as they could wish for, with red-hot Cardiff City heading to the John Smith’s Stadium tonight.

Chasing a much-needed win, head coach Carlos Corberan will have to make do with more or less the same 20 players he had at his disposal on Tuesday.

The good news is that at least the Town boss has reported no fresh injuries ahead of tonight’s game.

Jaden Brown could return to the bench after his ban, but Alex Pritchard is again expected to miss out after a slight knock.

Corberan said yesterday: “He was working with the medical staff today on the pitches. I expect to have him in 100 per cent condition from next week. Although the trio won’t be available tonight, the Town boss also gave an update on Danny Ward, Jonathan Hogg and Danny Grant.

“The idea with Danny Ward and Jonathan Hogg is that they’ll be involved in the training after the Cardiff game if everything goes well,” said Corberan.

“With Danny Grant, he’s working by himself, he’s done some individual training to get himself ready. We need to manage his adaptation well.”

It looks highly likely that the Spaniard could go with the same starting XI against Mick McCarthy’s in-form Bluebirds - a side unbeaten in 10 games and just outside the play-offs. ■■Predicted Town line-up to face Cardiff City: Ryan Schofield, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Naby Sarr, Richard Stearman, Pipa, Juninho Bacuna, Alex Vallejo, Lewis O’Brien, Duane Holmes, Fraizer Campbell, Isaac Mbenza. Substitutes: Joel Pereira, Richard Keogh, Romoney Crichlow, Jaden Brown, Aaron Rowe, Scott High, Sorba Thomas, Kieran Phillips, Yaya Sanogo.
