THE head teacher of a school has denied reports on social media that a staff member knowingly came in to work with Covid symptoms.

Linda Goodall, of Honley CE (VC) Junior, Infant and Nursery School, spoke out after parents began claiming that a member of staff had gone into school with symptoms.

One parent said the member of staff had turned up in a bid to not let down colleagues, but said she should face ‘repercussions’ for causing an outbreak.

But Miss Goodall said the rumours were totally untrue.

She said: “We understand that there are some comments on social media suggesting a member of our staff came into school knowing they had Covid symptoms, and I want to reassure parents that this is not the case.

“A member of staff did feel unwell but did not come into school and took a Covid test and self-isolated.

“Since we fully reopened to all children on March 8, we have had a had a number of positive Covid cases and we’ve written to parents to make them aware.

“We acted quickly and, to prevent any further spread of the virus, any child or member of staff who may have come into contact with any of these cases has been instructed to self-isolate and not attend school.

“The safety of pupils, their families and our staff is our number one priority.

“We have all measures in place to help prevent the spread of Covid as much as we possibly can at our school to keep everyone safe and we take this incredibly seriously.”
