Bored by Brexit? Do you know what’s going on?

-

I am sorry to say that the letter from ‘Bored’ exemplifies the kind of thinking that has come to dominate so much of what has passed for political discussion for the last few years.

Apparently the French are to blame for recent export differences much as the EU is blamed for seeking to enforce the very rules the UK played a part, as an EU member, in framing.

This casting of Britain as a poor victim seems to disguise a fundamental inferiority complex. Moreover, it serves as a smokescreen hiding those politicians who so blatantly misled the electorate during the Referendum debate. Remember how leaving the EU would not affect trade or the border in Northern Ireland?

How bureaucracy would be reduced and the fishing industry revived. And don’t forget the £350m a week for the NHS.

As it is, finalising a trade deal has been far from easy, exporters require so much paperwork that many are opting out of trade with Europe.

Thousands of extra civil servants and border force officers have proved necessary. It seems business leaders and the people of Ulster will join nurses, doctors and fishermen in feeling betrayed.

If your correspondent really is ‘bored’ it can only be that he (or she) does know what has been going on.

Let us know what you’re up to, Barry

YET again I have to ask: where is Barry Sheerman?

Do we have to wait for him to have his second Covid vaccine for a photo showing he is still alive and kicking or do we have to wait for his agent to let him know when there is a good headline to jump on?

No doubt Bazza will start appearing during April, before the local elections, and bang on about what the Labour-run council have done for Huddersfield, however, there won’t be much to bang on about in that respect.

My point being that he is the elected MP for our town yet what has he done for us? I scratch my head in wonderment. Let’s see ..... he voted against Brexit whilst the majority of constituents voted to leave. He spent a few weeks in

Almondbury whilst on lockdown but as soon as he could he shot off to London where, I presume, he still is. Well what is he doing in London? I hope he took his New Testament with him because he isn’t doing much else for our town at present.

If he is,then I ask, no, I implore him, to let us know just what he is up to. After all he is very well paid.
