TOWN’S DION BLOW

- By JAMES FINDLATER By CHRIS OSTICK

HUDDERSFIELD Town may have to look elsewhere for a new central defender this summer, with reports suggesting Sunderland are in talks with Wolves over the permanent transfer of Dion Sanderson.

The Terriers were linked with the defender last summer as the club weighed up their options at right-back, with speculation resurfacing in recent weeks Town were again taking a look.

That interest could be set to come to an end, though, with reports suggesting he’s in talks over making his stay at the Stadium of Light a permanent one.

Sanderson (pictured) has been on loan with Sunderland in League One this season, where he has caught the eye playing at the centre of the Black Cats’ defence.

Along with Town, Sheffield United, Brighton and Brentford have all been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, with Wolves said to be contemplating a sale of around £2m this summer.

The defender hasn’t given any hints as to where his future lies so far, although he has suggested he wants to return to Wolves.

“If the opportunity to play for Wolves presented itself, I would take it,” he said. “Wolves have been my boyhood club, and it’s where I see myself in the future. I definitely see myself in the Premier League. I just have to keep my standards high for myself – that’s my aspiration and where I want to be.”

Reports suggest, however, Wolves have opened negotiations with Sunderland over the sale of Sanderson.

That would seemingly knock back any interest the Terriers had in the player, and may mean Carlos Corberan will have to look elsewhere for a new central defender as the Town boss faces up to a headache at the heart of his back four.

The Terriers have four players in that position set to be out of contract this summer.

AIDAN Sezer says Huddersfield Giants feels like a new club ahead of the start of the Super League season.

The Claret and Gold face Hull FC on Sunday at Headingley to kickstart their first campaign under head coach Ian Watson.

Aussie ace Sezer has revealed the former Salford Red Devils boss has instilled a new ‘culture’ at Giants - and that the squad are learning from him all the time.

“Watto has brought in a different culture, it feels like a new club, the
