Tragedy of a loving young mother, 36, who took her own life
A LOVING mum who struggled all her adult life with mental health issues took her own life, an inquest heard.
Rebecca Penn, known as
‘Becky,’ of Milnsbridge, Huddersfield, suffered from problems including bipolar disorder and anxiety, as well as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, (ADHD), and a personality disorder.
Her mum, Dawn, told an inquest at Bradford Coroner’s Court that she sensed something was wrong when her Whatsapp messages went unanswered on the morning of September 12, 2019.
Dawn said: “I knew something was not right.” She tried calling the charity shop where she worked but staff said the 36-year-old had not turned up to work that day. Police broke into her well-kept home and found her body along with a suicide note which expressed remorse for cheating on her male partner.
It said: “I am so, so, so sorry for the hurt and pain I have caused.
“I am just as bad as all the other women who cheat on their men.
“I can’t handle the guilt. I am deeply, deeply sorry.”
The court heard that when she was well she was good company, enjoyed working in a charity shop, loved her two boys and was full of plans for the future.
Coroner Angela Brocklehurst heard a wealth of evidence that care workers and psychiatrists had tried their best to help her live as independently as possible despite all her problems.
She concluded that Rebecca died as a result of suicide.
