Midfield warrior Alex thanks fans after head injury

TOWN midfielder Alex Vallejo has thanked fans for their support and reassured them he is OK after he went off with a head injury in the first half against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder collided with Christian Norgaard around a minute into the 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium, leaving both men laid out and in need of medical attention.

Both eventually got up and continued playing and Vallejo played a key part in creating Town’s opener, winning the ball inside the Brentford half to give Lewis O’Brien the chance to beat David Raya from outside the box.

But Vallejo sank back to the turf clutching his head in the 22nd minute and was subsequently replaced by Juninho Bacuna.

Terriers head coach Carlos Corberan gave an update on Vallejo after the game, saying: “He had a blow to the head and his body created a bit of inflammation, which is why he did not feel well.

“He had the personality to continue trying to help in the game and for me I’m very proud of this mentality of any of my players.

“Unfortunately he couldn’t continue helping the team because until the change, for me Alex Vallejo was helping the team to play well.”

He added: “He’s doing better now, but it was impossible for him to continue in the game.”

Vallejo himself tweeted on Saturday evening: “Thank you for your support, it was just a hard blow to the head. Focused on the next match!”

It is unclear whether Vallejo will be able to turn out for the Terriers again when they venture to Norwich City on Tuesday evening, but the medical staff would need to be fully confident that he has definitely not suffered a concussion.

If there is any suspicion that Vallejo may have suffered a concussion then the protocols would dictate he must sit out that game, but may be able to return against Rotherham on Saturday subject to further analysis.

WHENEVER Town prepare to declare themselves safe, they keep having the rug pulled from under them.

A perfect Friday afternoon for the Terriers was marred slightly by Birmingham City’s unexpected late victory over Swansea, without which we’d be about ready to declare Town’s fight all but won.

And after Lewis O’Brien’s early goal against Brentford, we were wondering the same again.

There were was little room to complain about the result in the end. The visitors were firmly on top for the last hour of the game, forcing Carlos Corberan’s side to scrap and fight to gain every small and cynical advantage they possibly could in the game.

Corberan was ultimately disappointed not to take the three points, both because he felt his side defended poorly in the build-up to Mads Bech Sorensen’s goal – and because they failed to make the most of their counter-attacking opportunities.

Several players were unable to hide their frustrations on the final whistle, feeling they had blown an impressive
