‘Lewis can go all the way to the top’

FORMER Huddersfield Town defender Calum Woods believes Lewis O’Brien has what it takes to play at a higher level after his latest brilliant midfield performance.

O’Brien was the best player on the pitch as Carlos Corberan’s side claimed a very creditable 1-1 draw against Brentford in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff, scoring the opening goal from outside the box and putting in an incredible shift both on and off the ball.

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie awarded O’Brien the man of the match award for his efforts, and Woods - who played six games alongside O’Brien for Bradford City in 2018/19 - said he is not at all surprised to see his former teammate go from strength to strength.

Speaking on the club’s post-match show on YouTube, Woods said: “I actually thought Lewis was excellent all game. I saw on Sky he got man of the match but he totally deserved it.

“He just shows lots of energy. I was actually at Bradford with Lewis so I obviously knew him then and that was before he’d even made an appearance for Town.

“I knew he was going to some player because I’d seen him every day in training and he’s improving all the time.

“He really is going to be a top player. “He just shows so much energy and enthusiasm all the time. Every game he plays he gives a hundred percent no matter what game it is and whether you’re under pressure or whether you’ve got the ball, Lewis is an excellent player and a player you want in your team, definitely.

“He’s come on a lot but you could always see his qualities.

“Technically he’s very good, he’s got a great engine, he’s strong, he’s powerful, he can get forward, he likes a tackle at times as well

“He can actually do anything and he’s the sort of player who can actually go higher as well I think.”
